CEDA 2020 - COVID-19 Update and Survey

ear CEDA Community,

Over the last few days the Cross Examination Debate Association (CEDA) has been actively monitoring the latest updates regarding novel coronavirus (COVID-19) from the news, CDC, and institutional statements.

CEDA continues to monitor updates from the CDC, federal, state, and local health organizations across the country, with a particular focus on the state of West Virginia, to determine the potential impacts on the National Tournament. To date, there are no confirmed cases at West Virginia University or in the state of West Virginia. CEDA remains in contact with WVU debate, who has been in contact with their administration over the state of campus and the tournament. CEDA is investigating all of our options for the national tournament, and will provide updates as soon as we have them.

The decision on the status of the National Tournament will be determined by West Virginia University and the CEDA Executive Committee. Other tournaments that have been sanctioned by CEDA have simply agreed to run their tournament by the principles and rules of CEDA. Any decision of other CEDA sanctioned tournaments to cancel or hold a tournament with sanctioning is solely up to that host institution.

Over the coming days we will be making important decisions about the status of the tournament in consultation with WVU debate, the CEDA Executive Committee, and the community. To that effect, we ask that you please fill out the surveys below no later than 5:00PM central, Wednesday March 11th, 2020. In the meantime, we encourage everyone to continue to monitor and follow CDC recommendations.

Thank you for your understanding and patience.

Patrick Waldinger, President

Brian Rubaie, First Vice-President

Nick Ryan, Second Vice-President
