1997-98 CROSS EXAMINATION DEBATE ASSOCIATION
Call for submissions to Contemporary Argumentation & Debate

Editorial Policy
Contemporary Argumentation & Debate: The Journal of the Cross Examination
Debate Association is an annual scholarly journal dedicated to publishing
quality research related to the theory and practice of academic debate,
public argumentation and debate, diversity issues in forensics, forensic
tournament administration, and other areas of interest to association
members. Of particular interest to the editor are articles relating to the
relationship between academic debate and the broader disciplines of
rhetoric, philosophy, and communication.
While submissions are reviewed throughout the year, authors are encouraged
to submit manuscripts prior to February 1, 1998. The journal's publication
schedule makes it unlikely that manuscripts received after that date can be
accepted for the 1998 issue.

Submission guidelines
Manuscripts should be prepared in accordance with the most recent edition
of the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers. The journal employs a
blind review system, which means that manuscripts should contain to internal
references which might identify the author(s).
Manuscripts should include a detachable cover page listing all authors,
their institutional affiliations, e-mail addresses, and phone numbers. All
correspondence related to the manuscript, including notification of receipt,
will be directed to the first author listed. If accepted for publication,
the author(s) will be expected to submit the manuscript on disk.
Four copies of the manuscript should be sent to : T. C. Winebrenner,
Editor, CAD, Speech Communication Department, Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, CA
93407.

The CEDA Constitution, Bylaw VII, specifies that otherwise eligible junior
debaters cannot earn CEDA sweepstakes points in junior (except at junior

of junior debaters who are no longer eligible to earn CEDA sweepstakes
points in junior.

Notification of Transfer Students

The CEDA Constitution, Bylaw VIII, specifies that a transfer student can
compete in CEDA sanctioned tournaments. However, students who transfer from
one four year institution to another are ineligible to earn CEDA points for
two semesters after they last debated for the previous school. The director
of the transfer student's new school is responsible for reporting to the
Executive-Secretary the names of transfer students so they do not earn CEDA
points.

Notification of Students not in "Good Standing"

The CEDA Constitution, Bylaw VII, specifies that to earn CEDA points
students must be "officially enrolled" and in "good standing" at the college
or university they represent. "Officially enrolled" and "good standing" are
defined by the institution that the student represents. Please list
students who are ineligible to earn CEDA points under this provision.
