Here's a reasonable ideas for all those who praise the name change and all
of those who don't.
We can have a overall name for the activity but still maintain the names
of the two divisions within debate. it pleases most if not all. those of
those who say there is no merger just the same topic may like this a
little better, and there is still that name change to please the others.
Model off of baseball possibly. Have the national collegeate debate
association or whatever the popular name is such as you have the title
major league baseball. then you have the ceda and ndt divisions within
that which would be similar to the american and national leagues. Both
american and national leagues have very distinct qualities that
distinguish the two such as with the ndt
and ceda but the term major league baseball represents a general unity for
the overall activity while still recognizing the distinctions within the
two divisions.
anyway, that's just a thought.

CEDA is an organization which will be renamed. There is no merger, except
that we debate a common topic. Otherwise, the two organizations exist. As
some (Ross Smith for one, I believe) have indicated, the NDT really only runs
one tournament, the NDT itself, while CEDA tries to be a comprehensive debate
organization which does a lot more than just host nationals.
I know of no high school tournaments run by CEDA.

I guess I don't understand your point. The name change is for the
organization, and will not impact NDT organizational frameworks in any way.
As already indicated most of what NDT does is run qualifiers and a national
tournament. CEDA is a different style of organization and tries to do a lot
more than that.
Please feel free to call the activity or the division whatever you want, but
whether it is CEDA or NDT you will be debating the CEDA Topic, voted on by
CEDA members. Fortunately for all of us, many, many of our NDT colleagues are
members of both NDT and CEDA, as I am. I just sent my dues form through for
payment last Friday.
