 What follows is a response to Mr. West's overestimation of my knowledge on
international terrorism. I never claimed to be wise, just to have an
opinion:

Hi, although I have no particular expertise in combating terrorism I am a
student of history,  I'll take a few stabs. I think the British SAS did a
fairly good job with it's insertion campaigns against the IRA and the
revolt in Malaysia. I think both the Israeli Mossad, and other factions of
its military have done good jobs in the past cleaning up terrorist scum
(Entebbe, the reprisals for the Munich Massacres, etc.), I think the German
GS-9 (despite bungling Munich badly) did a good job in rolling up the
Beider-Meinhoff Gang, and the Red Brigade, not to mention that little
airline incident in Somalia a couple years back. These are all examples of
instances where nation states have gone after terrorists with direct
insertion action. And while the terrorism continued (IRA ect) it continued
at a lesser level than before the campaigns started. All a Cruise Missile
strike does is sends a one time message of "don't piss with us," effective
if you are taking it out on a nation (Iraq for instance) but not very
effective when you are dealing with an organization that is mobile,
flexible, and probably one who doesn't give a shit how many bombs we drop
on their base country, because they can go to another and they know we
can't bomb everything to oblivion.. I don't claim to be wise, or
knowledgeable about this, but I think there are better ways of doing
things.
