What, did you sleep through the Iran-Contra hearings?  You don't recall a
certain sitting President, semi-stoned and utterly incoherent, sputtering,
"I don't recall" every 15 seconds?  Talk about testimony that indicated an
inability to perform the functions of the office...

Ok Mike, but I also think you are missing my claim. No where have I
ever denied that McGwire, Sosa et al are great hitters. I would
certainly agree that not just anyone can hit a major league pitch.
And even fewer could hit it over the fence. But that wasn't my
claim. My claim was basically that in terms of the "validity" of
the home run RECORD, the changes since the strike to try and lure
back fans have made it EASIER to hit home runs. In order for the
record to be truly on par with Ruth and Maris, McGwire and Sosa
would have to be hitting under the same conditions. This, of course,
is impossible. So I guess we will just have to accept that there
are "eras" to all records. The land speed record of today can't
really be compared to the land speed record of 1950.

   Oh well, it bums me out when ya don't raise to the bait.  :P
