Well, actually, Mr. Krueger, the NDT used to always be held in mid-to late
April, before Skip Coulter decided he was working too much and started the
drive for a shorter season in the early 80's. The harms of contracted
seasons, now appear obvious.

Duh. Why can't they both establish committeees to work with each other on
maximizing tournament dates? I've been proposing this for over five years on
this list and all I get are comments about as analytically as deep as your
paragraph above. Could it be that some CEDA folks still don't want to
acknowledge NDT? Hell, we should invite NPDA to join in the quest, so major
tournaments can attempt to not be on top of each other.

Why doesn't that seem to happen, big guy?

I was thinking, that Africa would be quite a fine topic to debate next year;
however, it might be worthwhile to expand our knowledge for once of the agent
of action to something other than the US FG. That's getting kinda old to be
honest with you. Maybe next year we could experiment with an IGO
(international governmental organization) as the actor? There's plenty of
them with significant roles in Africa, mainly the UN, the IMF, the World
Bank, WHO, etc. An excellent check in the resolution would be the term IGO,
which limits out all the potentially abusive actors, such as the United
Actors Guild or Greenpeace because both of those are NGO's and not IGO's.
Also, it'd be a worthwhile proposition to consider considering our topic base
to be sub-Saharan Africa and not just limiting it to a certain list of
countries. Again, i think that the term sub-Saharan Africa is a pretty clear
line with a distinct literature base. Another thing is that debating
sub-Saharan Africa avoids the similarities to the Middle East topic which was
only about five years ago.

Just my thoughts,

Subject: winnin aint everything....

hey everyone
ever since i returned home from nats, ive had a lot of time to think back on
my debate career, i know i had a chance at some thank you's, but i left out
some key people...(if youre tired of reading these im sorry, just bare with
those of us who are going thru post debate depression)
first, i want to thank some judges that have always been supportive of me
*d. heidt-although he dropped us more times than he picked us up, i was
always confident that he would listen to any arg we had, and that was
extremely special
*w. repko-i must have read this one indict 20 times on gendertivity and he's
the only judge that ever even evaluated it, it seemed small but it meant a
lot to me
*shanara-for giving me my first win on gender, and giving me the
encouragement to continue tryin to run different args
*john bruschke-for working with me at ADI, and givin me some of the best
advice ever, telling me to run args i felt strongly about....thanks for
perpetual support
*hingstman-for helpin me my soph year at ADI and having faith that one day i
would do more than just read fast
*kelly congdon-for being a gendertivity hack, and an all around great person
*gab prisco-for being so supportive and encouraging especially thru tough
spots
*josh hoe-for being a first rate judge and an even better friend
second, some friends
*kristin langwell-you are truly amazing, debating with you at the heart was
such a great thing, you really care so much about others and that is special
*emma filstrup-i still have the "we control uniqueness" card you made us
earlier in the year, im sure it brought us luck, you rock
*kate charles-what can i say, you kept kenda in line this year...and you kept
goin even in the very rough times, best of luck next year!
*kenda cunningham-you are so amazing, thanks for being there for me always,
even if you did miss my last debate round ever!:), youre gonna kick much ass
next year too
*andy ryan-thanks for reminding me how to link turn the terrorism disad at
the heart, and for everything you did there and thru out the year
*damien pfister-for always making fun of me for running only one argument,
guess you forgot about topicality:)
*tara o'dowd-thanks for always understanding the way i felt and being a
constant source of encouragement
*alison chase-thanks for having "cat fights" with me, and always being ready
to hang out in the bar
*geoff smith-for being the best ADI partner ever, hopefully we can win a demo
debate this summer for once:)
*horowitz-for forcing me to read the infamous murray
some special role models, elisia cohen, kate shuster, lesley wexler, and
corey stoughton
and i got to thank the whole west ga crew at ceda, but thanks again to mike,
jon, rashaad, liz, jim, dom, sed, bonilla and kerpen (thanks for the theory)
and of course the best partner in the entire world sarah holbrook, who taught
me so much about myself and my relationship with others, besides tryin to
make me be debacherous once in a while, sarah is the reason why we had such a
great year
the reason why i wrote winnin aint everything, is that i realize now what i
miss so much already is not winning but actually debate itself and the people
who are associated with it
debate has allowed me to open up and stand up for things i feel strongly
about when i would not have had the courage otherwise, i still have a long
way to go, but i know im on the right path
and finally thanks to carrie crenshaw, for being an amazing role model, and
for giving me the opportunity to work with her and the rest of the alabama
squad next year
so even though im not debating any more, sorry yall cant get rid of me yet
i love all of yall very much and i wouldnt trade my experiences for the world
rachel
