votes and voting

Kelly McDonald has said:
* I am not as comfortable revealing the vote counts for elections -- we have
not in the past in the same way that personnel decisions -- such as CAD
editorship decisions -- are made within the Executive Committee not in
public. We elect representatives for a reason and should and must entrust
them to do some things to ensure that our organization operates.
Why is this necessary? You claim is that we must trust our representatives
with "some things" but what is the warrant for this being one of those
things. Totals are far different from voting lists.
1 low totals could help to galvanize community interest. The more members
who are aare of how centralized voting processes may have become, the more
who are willing to renew their level of participation
2 revealing the totals could inspire more confidence in those members who
already question the result
3 not revealing the totals provides a platform for those who suspect that
something is amiss while allowing others( and this is hypothetical) to mask
results for their own agenda.
I just don't see a warrant.
