That's funny, Harvard, Michigan, Redlands, Dartmouth, Kansas, and maybe Iowa
are definately "small" schools, at least in my opinion.
>>>>>>>>>>

Yeah, but if you were looking through the lens of a school with few or no
scholarships, a small budget and only one coach, you might have a different
opinion. You are looking through the lens of Emory, and MOST schools look
small compared to that. :-)

>>>>>>>>>>
I mean, Redlands has one coach and one team if they're lucky.
>>>>>>>>>>

But when Marc and Rodger were in the finals of the NDT they had a bigger
team, and Southworth had help. Also, scholarships, and budget have a lot to
do with winning NDTs.

>>>>>>>>>>
Michigan rarely has more than 3 teams.
>>>>>>>>>>

Damn, those poor folks...... :-) But how many coaches, grad-asses,
scholarships, and what size budget?

>>>>>>>>>>
Kansas is pretty small, just take a look at Scott Harris sometime if you
doubt me, he works himself to death during the season to stay on top of
things.
>>>>>>>>>>

When Boyd and Zive were in semis, they listed coaches as: Scott Harris, Rod
Phares, Ben Voth, Kelly McDonald, Jeff Jarman, Cary Voss, and Heather
Aldridge

When Mike and Grant were in semis, they listed coaches as: Scott Harris,
Sarah Patlow, Stacey Sowards, Val Renegar, Jeff VanCleave, Hajir Ardebili

This is more coaches then most schools have debaters.

>>>>>>>>>>
And Georgetown has one coach and usually one team. (Putting Georgetown and
Redlands on this list is laughable.)
>>>>>>>>>>

But when those teams were in deep elims at the NDT they were much larger
programs than they are now.

>>>>>>>>>>
Yes, Emory, Northwestern, Michigan State, and Wake have had huge squads for
some time. So, i'm not sure what you define as "small". Small budget?
Small number of coaches? Small number of students? Small Library?
>>>>>>>>>>

Yup, that's pretty much it. I do not see how any of the schools that JP
mentioned could be considered "small" under the guidelines you list. AT
least not when they were in the finals of the NDT.

Compare the schools we are discussing to the "average" school doing debate
(not just the average school at the NDT itself), and I think you will agree
that those teams in deep elims were most definately "large" schools.
