giving blood

I think there was a problem with my last post, so I am going to say this
again, and if you got the message-sorry. I just wanted to let everyone
know that giving blood today isn't necessarily the right option. If you
do live in or close to one of the affected areas-go! But if you live in
another state like I do, I ask that you please wait until next week.
Something I have learned from being in the middle of the OKC bombing and
the May 3 tornadoes both is that the media is pleading for more blood
than what will be used. The problem is that blood doesn't last very
long and the people who are survivors will most likely require multiple
surgeries or units of blood over long periods of time. If we all give
blood now, then we are not eligible to give for at least another 50
days, which means there won't be many people eligible to give after the
next few days, stopping blood institutes to replenish their supply.
This means that in a few weeks or months our states will not have enough
blood to continue treatement-this was a huge problem after the boming.
So this is my plea-if there is more than an eight hour wait in your
area, please give blood, but do so in a few days or weeks when it will
help the most.
Thanks,
