mmk:  unh... well...  doesn't the judge look great this morning, Matt?  such 
grace under pressure, such joi du vivre, such panache!  incredible!

mjs: warrant sir?

mmk: warrant?!?  for what?  i paid that damn ticket!  there must be some 
mistake!  you've got the wrong guy, man!  you'll never get me, copper!  
never!

mjs: <yawn>  there anything justifying that claim?  anything?

mmk:  well, someone defending that position might reason as follows:

terrorist leaders have decided that the West is soft, that it is run by 
women and decadents and spineless bureaucrats.  (terrorist leaders are real 
men living a harsh and dangerous and spartan life: bin Laden has 4 wives and 
18 children and many big guns).  they are convinced that Bush and his 
brother viagra addicts don't have the political will to do battle.  but 
should that bet not work out, they have decided that internal factions and 
inter-national rivalries and competing economic and political interests will 
prevent the multi-national cooperation needed for military action.  but 
should that gamble fall apart, they have decided that western decadence will 
insist on proportional response and limited reaction and a civilized, 
lawful, bounded response to prevent the worst.  and they have seen time and 
again that the West has a large and rather well-organized network of 
intellectuals who always rally against US military action:  if all else 
fails, they can count on those folks to rally round the flag and give them 
one last chance.

is that time yet?  no?  hey! i wrote this poem the other day! wanna hear it?
