Not to be too demanding of the free service that phil provides, but the 
archives are not very helpful to find people, because names are not provided 
just email addresses. Some email address have names but alot of others are 
strnage hotmail accounts like nihlpenguin. Others are compilations of 
letters that your university choses for you like

Maybe some sort of solution could be a voluntary directory listing, like 
hotmail for example, this would allow those people who don't mind being 
found to have their email address available by name and those who had 
privacy concerns to maintain their anonymity.

Not sure exactly how this would look, but i think it could solve alot of the 
looking for posts
