[eDebate] WDC- how fun it was

hey all --

i guess that since i told everyone at the end of camp party that i would
email the list-serv on monday, and it is almost friday, i should at least
attempt to follow the lead of others. :)

i've been going to wyoming every summer since the coop's inception and am
continually amazed by both the depth of talent and the willingness to work
from everyone i've had the pleasure of working with. I think that the
format and the focus of the WDC is unique in that it teaches not only that
community effort is the backbone of both evidence production and debate
skills but also that competition doesn't require harming others.

Specifically, I like to say thanks to a few people --

Matt Stannard -- thank you for having wanted me to come the first year, and
inviting me back since, and for continuing to run a stellar institute.
You're a force, a good one, and there's no one i'd rather listen to marxism
lectures from.

Dave Cram Helwich -- it would be repetitive to say that you're a
card-cutting machine, and besides, it's so obviously true that there's not
much point in saying it again. what i think people forget is how much you
care and how all of your work is done to make others better. i think it's
working with me, and i still can't believe you're coaching at mac this year.
we're so happy to have you! :)

Ken Delaughder -- i was pleasantly surprised to hear you were coming this
year, and i wasn't disappointed -- you make me want to extend disads, and
i'm actually enjoying it a lot. i'm not sure that i always appreciate your
driving skills (especially not backwards) but i totally admire your debate
skill. even if you do make fun of my accent.

Sarah Stone and John Hansen -- I'm so glad I finally got to work with y'all
-- you made working a pleasant experience, even if i was usually too tired
to be real responsive.

Other camper people -- there are too many to name, but this was a banner
year for making friends -- especially courville and lawrence (pretty much
the funniest twosome _ever_), michelle (district 4 love, plus she's just
really cool in general), lauren (the world's funniest roommate), cisneros
and kelly (that was one hella memorable debate round) and chris loghry (one
very smart kid and an excellent debater, not to mention really fun to talk
to). And that's only the people i met this year.

and the mac debate team in attendance -- andy tweeten and ben kantor -- you
have no idea how much fun it is to actually have a team. :)

One other thing -- people are going to need to watch out, because the
cheyenne east first years debating this year are going to be fantastic --
brian delong and chris crowe for wyoming, chris loghry for umkc -- i was
really impressed by both their talent and their card-cutting skill. there's
no way i can cut warming cards as well as loghry can . . . :)

anyways, thanks to everyone for the experience. i'm sorry this was a little
long -- everyone knows i talk too much. :)
