I don't know Natalie personally - but I know of her thru the history of the team.  I have to say I admire the hell out of her for telling her story. Partly because it's never easy to talk about things like this so openly, but mostly because it's womyn like her that have made my life easier.

I have to say - across the board - I feel completely safe and comfortable with all my coaches.  I can't imagine being in this environment and not feeling safe, there's no way I could perform well at all.  I think it's important for these stories to be told.  It makes people aware and it empowers those who may have experienced it themselves to speak out.

My teammates and coaches have become like my second family.  I don't have as many non-debate friends, but it's not because it isn't encouraged.  I hope Duane's high-schoolers find this when they go to college.  Sometimes its been tough being away from my family and I am grateful I have my 'team' to count on.
