Will Baker, concerning the naming of an award for ceda nationals....

1-Support for the student award at the meeting was by no means
universal. The issues of naming opportunities within an organization
are complex, carry significance and should be examined strategically to
fulfill the intent of the organization. Such choices are made lighly
too often in other organizations and CEDA should aspire to better
practices. There were also objections about the person selected that can
be advanced by those who voiced those concerns privately. You can
backchannel folks to find out more. It was not a no-brainer, folks
actively chose not to reconsider it the day before. We were not
handcuffed;
--------------------

Since those expressing concern remain nameless in this post, and I wasn't at
NCA since I am no longer a ceda rep...I can't exactly backchannel anyone to
hear their concerns privately. So, my email address is
"slusher at gonzaga.edu" - I would LOVE to hear about your concerns. Email me
anytime.

I'm sorry if I offend...but, I've never noticed ceda take award naming this
seriously. Quite the contrary. I would love to hear about the last few
instances and the thought process that went into those awards. See, I was
serving as National student rep to the executive council and eventually as
NW ceda rep during some of this and I don't even remember a discussion at a
business meeting. But, I could be wrong. I never remember a controversy.

This is ridiculous - get over yourselves...whoever you are.
