Hey,
I understand that several people can't open my attachments for the App State tournament, so I have included below.
Matthew Doggett

Dear Colleague,

We are pleased to extend to you an invitation to the 61st Annual Mountain Forensics Tournament and the Pi Kappa Delta Southeast Province Tournament. This fall the tournament will once again be sponsored by the Appalachian State University Forensics Union and Pi Kappa Delta's Epsilon Chapter, and for the first time, the College of Charleston Forensic Team and Pi Kappa Delta's ETA Chapter will host a second Individual Events tournament on the weekend of November 7-9, 2003. We are expecting another tremendous showing from the 30-40 schools that have previously made the trip to ASU and look forward to first-timers as well.

The tournament will feature Open, Junior, and Novice divisions of Policy debate. We will abide by the CEDA rulings on these divisions. In policy debate we will have six preliminary rounds of competition on the 2003-04 CEDA Policy Debate Topic plus the appropriate number of elimination rounds. All schools are welcomed. This year we will offer Open and Novice divisions of NPDA debate as well. In these divisions, we will have six preliminary rounds of competition plus the appropriate number of elimination rounds. NPDA guidelines will be followed for this event.

This year we will once again offer competition in 11 Individual Events. Policy Debaters will not be allowed to enter individual events. NPDA Debaters will be allowed to enter Flight A events only. A list of the individual events offered is included in this invitation. We will offer two preliminary rounds plus finals in each event.

Remember to put Appalachian State University on your tournament schedule today. The entire ASU Forensics Team and College of Charleston Forensics Team hope that you will be able to join us this year. Come enjoy the beautiful mountain scenery and fresh air. If you have any questions do not hesitate to call.

Sincerely,

                                                 Policy Debate Tournament Information

ENTRIES: Each school may enter as many teams as it wishes in each division. Any student may be entered in the Open Division. Only students with two years or less experience in college debate may be entered in the JV division. Only those students with 2 semesters or less experience including high school debate may be entered in Novice Division (excluding Lincoln-Douglas Debate).

FORMAT: The 2003-04 CEDA Policy Topic will be used for the three policy divisions. Six preliminary rounds with appropriate elimination rounds in each division will be offered. Speaker awards will be given based upon adjusted speaker points (dropping highest and lowest points), then total speaker points, then double adjusted speaker points, then team record, then ranks.

AWARDS: Appropriate awards will be provided to all teams reaching elimination rounds

and the top 5 speakers in Novice, JV and Open Policy Debate. Individual Events Information

ENTRIES: Each college may enter any number of contestants in each event, but only the best three slots will count toward sweepstakes. Paneling constraints, however, may require that large entries from the same school in one event may have to be doubled up (or even tripled) in some panels. Each student may enter a maximum of three events per group. Students may double enter duos with different partners. Students may not triple enter duos. It is each student's responsibility to get to rounds on time and to notify judges when he/she is double or triple entered.

PENTATHLON: To be eligible for pentathlon a student must enter five events, including one limited prep, one prepared and one interp event. The student's best 5 events will count toward pentathlon. The student must also be listed on the college's entry form as a pentathlon contestant.

EVENT GROUPINGS: Bracket A: Extemp, Com Analysis, Prose and Duo.

Bracket B: Informative, Poetry, ADS and Program Oral Interpretation

Bracket C: DI, Impromptu and Persuasion

The Tournament Director reserves the right to change some of the bracketing if necessary due to judging constraints, etc.

AWARDS: I.E. Sweepstakes award will be given to the three schools who accumulate the most overall points throughout the tournament. Schools with multiple entries in an event will have only the top three contestants counted for sweepstakes points. 1st through 3rd Overall Sweepstakes Awards will be given as well to those schools who are competing in both debate and individual events. Once again the Bullthrower Award will be given to the I.E. judge who provides constructive criticism in an imaginative way. Awards will be given for 1st through 6th place in all events.

JUDGES: One judge is required for every 6 slots or fraction thereof. All judges are required to be available for final rounds. Judging is very tight so please make every effort to cover your entry. We may have to turn down entries if a sufficient number of judges is not available.

FEES: $7.00 per slot. $9.00 for every uncovered I.E. slot.

So you to need make your reservations by October 31, 2003 or you won't get the reduced rate. The main hotel will be the Comfort Inn. The Comfort Inn is located on NC Highway 105. The rooms include two beds and a rollaway sofa. This is an excellent rate for a tourist town. The phone number for the Comfort Inn is (888) 854-5959.
