My heritage as native Kansan, and son of k-state grades 2 generations
back, certainly colors my perception.

only two things to say

1) Duke, UK, UCLA, and maybe UCONN have reached a dynasty status that KU
has not.

        a) Duke Back to back champs, then that one a few years ago, plus
the lose to UConn and UNLV in the finals = dynasty

        b) UK - the staggered championships in the 90's and that one they
lost to Arizona = dynasty

        c) UCLA's string before my life time plus the one in 95 = dynasty

        D) Uconn - probably way to young as a basketball institutions but
2 championships in the last 6 years or so. hmm

All of these teams with the exception of UCLA as of late, have been to
lots of final fours, elite 8s and the like, but these teams have gotten it
done. The best team should win or at least get to the final game, in the
NCAA, most of the time. All the above teams did it when they were the
most loaded with talent. KU has not gotten it done when they were at
their talent peak, I'm looking in your direction Peirce - Lafrenz and Co.
and your way Gooden - Collison and Co. The trips to the final game
against duke (92ish) and Syracuse (03) were a nice surprise. I can see
how it would be satisfying to be a KU fan all those wins and what not, but
damn it must hurt in a unique way. When the expectations have been the
highest the loses have been so gut wrenching.

2) I can't believe you put Manny next to Rump, Smith, Wilt, ect. Manny is
a flash in the pan the rest are legacies.
