Dear Friends,
On behalf of the entire UMass Policy Debate Team, we would like to
invite you to the first annual Minuteman Debates, to be held at the
University of Massachusetts Amherst campus. The tournament will be CEDA
sanctioned, and we will be offering (6?) preliminary rounds in open
(?), Junior Varsity, and Novice, with 4 rounds on Saturday and 2 on
Sunday. We will also have an appropriate number of elimination rounds
in all divisions according to the rules of Cross Examination Debate
Association (CEDA) debate. We look forward to seeing you in Amherst!

Resolution: We will use the 2004-05 CEDA Resolution
Format: Time limits for CEDA debate will be 9-3-6 (9 minute
constructives, 3 minute cross-examination, 6 minute rebuttals) with 10
minutes preparation time per side
Sanctioning and Eligibility: The Minuteman Debates has been sanctioned
by CEDA, and we will use the CEDA definitions of Novice, Junior
Varsity, and Open eligibility
Entry Fees: $70 per team and an additional 75 for uncovered teams. We
can?t stress strong enough how important it is for teams to bring their
own judging

The Howard Johnson?s in Hadley MA is our tournament hotel. It is very
close to campus, about 3 minutes away and we have reserved a block of
rooms under the name ?Debate?. The room rate is $89 per night

Directons:
To UMASS
To Campus from South
Via I-91 North, Exit 19 in Northampton. From the exit ramp, turn right
onto Route 9 and go approximately 4.5 miles to Route 116 North (left
turn at the lights) 1 mile to UMass exit. (Do we want to give these
directions or just write our own?)
To Campus from North
Via I-91 South, Exit 25 in Deerfield. At the end of the ramp turn left
and follow the road to the intersection. Turn right onto Routes 5 & 10
South. Go 1 mile, then turn left onto Route 116 South. Follow for 8
miles to the UMass exit.
Via I-93 South. Follow I-93 to I-495 South. Follow to Route 2 West.
Continue on Route 2 to exit 16 (Belchertown/Amherst). Follow Route 202
for about 15 miles to blinking light at Route 9 and 116 Amherst exit
(Pelham). Turn right and follow for 7 miles to Amherst center. Follow
signs to UMass.
>From the Mass Pike East or West
Exit 8 (Palmer). Follow Route 32 South to Palmer, take Route 20 West to
Route 181 North into Belchertown, and then Route 9 West to Amherst.
Follow signs to UMass.
Exit 4 (W. Springfield). Follow I-91 North to exit 19. From the exit
ramp, turn right onto Route 9 and go approximately 4.5 miles to Route
116 North (left turn at the lights) 1 mile to UMass exit.:
Pairings and breakfast will be in the main lobby of Herter Hall at 8am
in Saturday
