Let?s assume first rounds get assigned via geography. Maybe 7 schools get them
that otherwise would have not. If that trade-off saves enough money so 7 more
students could go to debate tournaments or get scholarships, it?s worth it.
if 7 new schools get a bid, then as many as seven old schools don't. what if
one of those schools who doesn't get a first round bid (say, UWG for example)
has 6-8 debaters and the way that said school has been able to get money has
been to point to its "national success," i.e., First Round bids, as a
justification for funding?
this issue is a LOT more complex than it's being portrayed...
