Neil Birch suggested several possible explanations for statistics indicating
that teams with 6-2 or 5-1 records at three particular tournaments had a
percentage of female judges that was lower to a statistically significant
degree than those who had 2-6 or 1-5 records at those particular
tournaments. I would suggest an alternative explanation in case Mr. Birch
is interested in performing further analysis. My hypothesis is that this
occurs simply because male judges tend to be assigned to preliminary rounds
including teams with higher records at a rate that is greater to a
statistically significant degree than their female counterparts. An
analysis of the judging assignments in the very first power matched round at
each tournament would probably be the best way to get some confirmation of
that hypothesis. It would not be as helpful to analyze all power matched
rounds since we already know that male judges heard teams with better
records more frequently. Using the analysis of the first power matched
round would therefore introduce the least bias in to the process of
confirming this hypothesis. Just a suggestion and my $.02.
