Elims were an incredible demonstration of the level playing field that is
modern policy debate. In quarters,

Piedmont College DM d. Emory AP on a 3-0
Samford AW d. Harvard KT on a 2-1
Mercer LW d. Northwestern BM on a 2-1
Case Western BR d. Emory CG on a 3-0

Emory AP and CG, Harvard KT, and Northwestern BM then proceeded to stage a
collaborative performance art piece (with assistance from MSU HV, Dartmouth
CS, Wake Forest CH, and West Georgia KT) focusing on the merits of
re-drafting this year's resolution to read "Resolved: that modern policy
debate should consist of a perpetual circle jerk involving Emory,
Northwestern, Berkeley, Dartmouth, MSU, Harvard, Wake Forest and 1 other
team to be chosen on a year-by-year basis."

On a square root of negative 3 to Khalilzhad in '95 decision, the judges
voted to affirm the negation of the desert of the real.

As a result of the results from this weekend, I would like to publically
recognize that Charles Olney was right, and obviously anyone who works hard
has a fair shot at winning.
