while the discussion about topicality sure is valuable for pref sheet purposes,
hopefully another china post can get people thinking about actual resolutions
for the different areas.
please don't nitpick these for grammar, their only purpose is to show how easy
it would be to limit a china topic...feel free to point out areas i forgot to
include, or mix and match/amend these lists. the first one is supposed to be a
topic that takes a harder line stance on china, while the 2nd one deals more
with engagement.
Resolved, the United States Federal Government should increase pressure on the
People's Republic of China by enacting one or more of the following: mandating
a decrease in arms exports to the PRC, increased support of the Republic of
China, conditioning trade on improvement of human rights record or
non-proliferation violations, sanctions or threatened sanctions in response to
refusal to float the yuan, intellectual property rights violations, or dumping.
Resolved, the United States Federal Government should increase its engagement
withg the People's Republic of China by enacting one or more of the following:
loosening export restrictions on {x} to the PRC, decreasing arms sales to the
Republic of China {and recognizing the legitimacy of the one-china
policy/engaging in re-unification negotiations?}, engaging China in talks on
North Korean proliferation, promising not to sanction China for perceived human
rights violations (not sure how to word this one exactly, but I want to get to
a less punitive human rights policy), engaging in increased military to
military cooperation.
