it is sad that only approx. 32 of the 156 competitors at the 2005 NDT were 
women.  this is only approx. 20 percent of the competitors.

if women make up half the population of the country and probably more than 
half of the college population, their participation in college debate should 
be occurring at a higher percentage.

if women received 5/20 speaker awards at the 2005 NDT, that is 25 percent of 
the speaker awards, even though they only comprised 20 percent of the 
touranment.  this seems to be a positive thing, even though participation in 
general is much lower than it should be.
