THE BLAKE SCHOOL 
Upper School Debate Teacher/Speech Teacher
and Head Debate Coach
2006-07 School Year

The Blake School seeks to hire a dynamic part-time Gr. 9-12 Debate/Speech
Teacher and Head Debate Coach. (Depending on candidates? background and
experience, this position may be combined with additional teaching or
other duties, including Speech Team coaching, to make a full-time
contract.  A Bachelor?s Degree and debate/speech experience are required. 
A major or minor in speech/communications or language arts is desirable.

The Upper School Debate/Speech Teacher and Head Debate Coach is
responsible for:
?	Teaching all debate classes (Argumentation & Debate and Advanced Debate).
?	Teaching some sections of Psychology of Communications, a semester long
required course in twelfth grade. (This course is an advanced course that
includes units in public speaking, persuasion and media literacy.)
?	Supporting seniors outside of class in preparing their senior speeches. 
(The senior speech is a graduation requirement and are planned and
executed in conjunction with the student?s enrollment in Psych. of Comm.
or Adv. Debate.)
?	Overseeing all aspects of the co-curricular debate program (Policy and
Lincoln-Douglas Debate), including significant after-school and weekend
tournament preparation and participation. (The position includes travel to
national tournaments as well.)
?	Hiring and supervising all Assistant Debate Coaches (staff of 2 or 3).
?	Planning and running Blake?s Jack Edie Holiday Debate Tournament. (This
annual tournament takes place in December and has grown to be one of the
largest high school, national debate tournaments, with teams from all over
the country competing.) 
?	Managing debate program budgets.

for students in prekindergarten through grade 12 with an enrollment of
