[eDebate] Tate - Greenwald/Okemos/MSU/Research
Sun Aug 13 20:48:50 CDT 2006
Dave is a great guy, we are sad that he is attending another university in
the fall and will not be able to join Okemos at tournaments during
2006-2007. Amusingly for me at least, much of the work he did for Mr.
Greenwald coincided nicely with his research for our affirmative case last
year about judicial deference to executive authority and military trials.
While I would not suggest that the book was written because of our aff, it
sure was a nice surprise when Dave revealed to me that all that work would
pay off in another way. Dave reports that Glenn debated in both high
school and college.

I was just flipping through Glen Greenwald's HOW WOULD A PATRIOT ACT?
Glenn's own brief biography is quite impressive (and he was a GW debater).
He has positive reviews noted in the book from Markos Moulitsas - founder of
DailyKos, Arianna Huffington, and Jane Hamsher -- (Natural Born Killers)
and founder of DogLake. As an aside, Hamsher describes it as "one of the
greatest organized crime sagas ever written."
In his acknowledgements, Greenwald points out that many of the arguments and
ideas are drawn from "discussions with the participants and contributors" at
his blog - Unclaimed Territory (glenngreenwald.blogspot.com). He notes that
one day he asked for research assistance and had over two hundred willing
Most of the research, he says, was done by four blog readers: an attorney,
the president of an information technology and security company, blogger
Dave Johnson, and Dave Harris, "*a sophomore at Michigan State University
and an assistant coach for Okemos High School's debate team.*"
And this is beyond funny --
