To keep everyone informed, we are going to be signing the contracts for
overflow hotel space today for the Nichols. Everyone who has already
contacted me and provided a count of the number of rooms that are needed
will have space in the new block(s). These contracts will be settled
before the BCS officially announces LSU-Michigan-(or -gulp- USC if
something bad happens) this weekend, so as long as you have spoken with
me you shouldn't worry about finding space.

I will email all programs needing rooms as soon as the final details are
settled. We appreciate your patience and we are very excited about what
looks to be the largest Alan Nichols tournament in many many years.

Don't hesitate to contact me if you have any other questions.

The CSU Sacramento debate program has an opening for a graduate assistant (or 2) starting fall 2007. The Communication Studies Department at CSUS has many talented and dedicated faculty members in a diverse range of specialties. Former students from this department have been accepted into doctoral programs at Iowa, UNC Chapel Hill, Arizona State University and the University of Utah, to name a few. There are also many opportunities in Sacramento to do research or internships in politics & policy.

You can contact our current graduate assistants to learn more about our program: andreajterry at gmail.com <mailto:andreajterry at gmail.com> and theresaperry at gmail.com <mailto:theresaperry at gmail.com> . Check out the CSUS Communication Studies website at http://www.asn.csus.edu/coms/ for more info on our program.

I would be surprised if it looks like policy debate as we know it. I did a
little poking around. My write-up is online:

Subject: [eDebate] New Debate Movie

Hi, Was looking over the submissions list for Sundance today and saw that
this movie is going to be debuted in the Drama Section:

ROCKET SCIENCE (Director and Screenwriter: Jeffrey Blitz) -- A 15-year-old
boy from New Jersey with a stuttering problem falls in love with the star of
the debate team and finds himself suddenly immersed in the ultra-competitive
world of debating. World premiere.

Does anyone know anything about this movie? Is it policy debate?

"If all mankind minus one were of one opinion and only one person were of
the contrary opinion, mankind would be no more justified in silencing that
person that he, if he had the power, would be in silencing mankind. If the
opinion is right, they are deprived of the opportunity of exchanging error
for truth; if wrong, they lose, what is almost as great a benefit, the
clearer perception and livelier impression of truth, produced by its
collision with error." John S. Mill
