It is still not too late to be a part of the event as a participant, but
we must hear from you ASAP!!!!
This is a great chance to augment your resume for grad school app's or
to use any travel funds that will be lost if not utilized.
It's a happening, you should be a part of it.
Western Debate Information Update:
CASCAID Conference on Peace & Justice to be held May 19-20, 2006
The CASCAID Conference is an annual opportunity for advocates, academics
and activists to come together to exchange ideas. The Conference is
Co-Hosted by the Whatcom Human Rights Taskforce, and is sponsored in
part by the Civil Controversy Lecture series of WWU, along with Whatcom
Peace and Justice Center, Attraction Retreat, Bellingham Dharma Hall,
The conference will begin Friday May 19th featuring a keynote address to
kick off the Conference by Indigenous activist and scholar Ward
Churchill at 7PM in Fraser Hall. There will also be paper presentations
earlier in the day on Friday along with film and video presentations
prior to and after the keynote.
Saturday the conference will begin at 10 AM, and runs throughout the day
until 5 PM with all activities located in the Communication Facility.
The second day of the Conference will feature workshops and discussions
by Ward Churchill; Whatcom Human Rights Task Force; Whatcom Peace &
Justice Center; Attraction Retreat; Sustainable Bellingham; Buddhist
Peace Fellowship; Community To Community; No One Is Illegal; United
Parents for a Brighter Future; Interfaith Dialogue; Peaceful
Communications; WWU: Ethnic Student Center, Mixed Identity Student Org.,
LGBTA, Center for Educational Pluralism, SIRC, Civil Controversy; Sound
Essence Project; workshops for kids; and more.
The intention is to have a broad and inclusive conference which will
allow people of differing perspectives to come together to have a
meaningful exchange of views.
CASCAID is a service program of the Western Washington Debate Union, and
this will be the third annual conference hosted by the organization.
The event is free and open to all attendees and participants. Free
parking will be available (please check with the Visitors Center on
campus for specifics). Snacks and beverages will also be served
throughout the weekend.
