October 3, 2007 - The Cross Examination Debate Association (CEDA) recently
conducted a survey of its membership to review their forms of financial
support. The review highlighted some interesting findings with regard to the
role of student fees in supporting intercollegiate debate programs.

Highlights of the survey include:

.	Student fees play an important role in debate programs at public
universities and colleges. 82% of all public universities surveyed indicated
they receive support for travel or scholarships from student fees. This
support is in stark contrast to private universities. Less than 7% of
private universities and colleges receive any support from student fees.

.	Student fees provide over 50% of funding at public universities and
colleges (56%). Almost forty percent (38%) of public university and college
debate programs receive 100% of their travel funding from student fees.

The survey was compiled from data provided by CEDA member institutions. For
more information about the survey please contact Gordon Stables, CEDA 2nd
Vice President at 213-740-2759 or stables at usc.edu.
