[eDebate] Job openings at Pepperdine

Pepperdine will have three positions open in the fall. We are
specifically looking for a debate person for one of them but I would
love to have debate friendly folks in all of them. The descriptions are
below. I would be happy to answer any questions you have about the
school, team, positions, etc.

Visiting Instructor Positions in Communication (one year contract,
possibly renewable)

 

Application procedure:

 

Candidates for these positions should apply with supporting credentials
and responses requested at:
seaver.pepperdine.edu/about/employment/faculty.htm.  This should include
a clear and full statement of the applicant's response to the Christian
mission of the University.  However, candidates should not provide the
"statement of scholarly agenda." 

 

Indicate the position of first choice in the letter of application.  

 

Visiting Instructor in Communication-position one-to teach four sections
of COM 180 (Public Speaking and Rhetorical Analysis) each semester.  In
addition to teaching and other ordinary responsibilities, the ideal
candidate for this position would offer some assistance to the Forensics
Team.  This role would be negotiated between the Director of Forensics
and the faculty member but would likely include accompanying students to
two tournaments each semester, attendance at weekly team meetings, and
individual coaching sessions by appointment with policy or parliamentary
debaters or competitors in individual events.  Application review begins
April 15, 2009, and continues until the search is closed.  

 

The successful candidate will have completed the minimum of a master's
degree in communication and experience in working with a forensics team.

each semester that would likely include a combination over two semesters
of:  COM 180 (Public Speaking and Rhetorical Analysis), COM 200
(Communication Theory) and COM 301 (Message Creation and Effects).
Evidence should be provided of a thorough acquaintance with the content
material in the latter two courses.  Application review begins April 15,
2009, and continues until the search is closed.

degree in communication.
