Hi everyone!
I hope you all are doing well. Today I started my new job as Civics Institute Director and Debate Coach at Fairmont State University. Fairmont is about 20 miles south of Morgantown on interstate I-79.
As of now, I am not sure what that means for the WVU Debate Team. I know that they will not be participating/existing in the Fall, but my former boss said he was going to try and get a position for the debate team in the upcoming year. If that actually happens I do not know, and is out of my control.
Though it is bittersweet to leave WVU as it has been my home for a long time, it was no longer a sustainable place for debate (or me)- and it was becoming harder and harder to field competitive teams due to budget cuts and other job duties that they were forcing on me.
You can expect the same out of FSU as WVU. We will embark on our same set of travel that we have done, and plan to host JV/Novice Nationals here in the Spring.
If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to reach out.
Best, Samantha
Congratulations Samantha! What wonderful news for Fairmont State — they’re getting one of the all time greats to hard launch their debate program.
This is amazing! Congrats Samantha, very excited to see Fairmont at tournaments.
